The NHS provide orthodontic treatment to under 18's with a clear health need for this. For children with severe tooth prominence or crowding, NHS treatment may be available.
A rating system know as IOTN is used to assess a patients eligibility for NHS treatment, with NHS treatment being provided for any patient with an IOTN of 4 or 5. Grade 3 cases are usually assess on a case by case basis.
Due to the high demand for NHS orthodontic treatment, there is often a long waiting list for treatment throughout the UK.
If patients do not qualify for NHS orthodontics, or you do not want to wait for treatment, you can opt to have private treatment. Private treatments can also offer more discreet solutions for straightening teeth such as tooth coloured brackets, hidden wires that are placed behind the teeth or near-invisible braces with Invisalign clear aligners.
